The Alpha Pegasus is kind of a hidden gem. It has a great sweet spot and gets nice and plush after 2-3 hours, making it probably the most forgiving of the Alpha lineup with the fastest hand speed. If you like wide paddles, this could be the best at this price point.
As expected
Soft and plenty of controllable pop
Goldilocks? Unicorn? It almost sounds cliche to say, but this paddle truly is that perfect blend of power and control. Pop and power is excellent while not being uncontrollable. The 10mm honeycomb adds a ton of dwell to the paddle. I feel like I can shape the ball well and add a lot of spin because the paddle is pocketing the ball. Similar to tennis strings gripping a ball. The added dwell also gives a soft touch at the kitchen for dinks and resets from anywhere on the court. This paddle could be used at the highest level of play. Feel like it is a steal at this price. Like the other Pegasus paddles, this one has a massive sweet spot.
There is a break in period where the paddle will soften up. I’d say around 10ish hours of play for it to fully settle in. It will soften up before that. If you prefer a crisp/stiffer paddle and do not like the dwell/plush feeling, the power series would be a better option. This is not a great beginner’s paddle (check out the All Courts or Jelly Beans).
Can be played stock but I prefer adding weight. My weight setup:
- 6in of 0.5g/in starting just below bottom corners
- 2 layers of electrical tape
- 10g around butt cap
- 4in of 0.5g/in at 12 o’clock (experimenting with this. I may take it off)
Fantastic paddle so far, I love the touch/feel. To me it didn't seem like there is any type of "break-in" period. Great out-the-box! Feels soft when you need it but also has plenty of power to put it away. For reference I have the preproduction model-all black. I am also slightly more on the aggressive side when it comes to playing style (3.8 DUPR).
