Spin control is addicting! Playing with 2 grams of lead on the lower sides and over grip.
I previously owned the J2k and an alibaba Perseus IV clone, prior to purchasing this paddle. This paddle by far clears both of them for being my favorite.
This paddle has a stiff and firm feel off the face, which I like, because the ball instantly responds to your input and sends feedback as to the kind of hit you got on it. The foam paddles with more dwell and plushness while great for some are not ideal for me as your hits become muted and it becomes difficult to understand why certain hits react the way they did.
I am playing stock, and have put in about 20 hours so far. The power on drives is easy to tap into, but I wouldn’t say it’s upper echelon of power. Up close however, this paddle has a lot of punch, which makes it very powerful. Hands battles, speed ups, and punch volleys all are very strong with this paddle, and the shape/weight makes hands battles easy.
As for control, I was slightly popping up balls on my first session, and within two hours had dialed it in to be at the height I need. Resets were easy, and there was only a slight learning curve with the paddle.
After 20 hours the paddle has great driving power, elite up-close pop, elite spin, and is easy to control in the soft game. It does everything I want and took me half a session to fine tune.
My only negative would be how much ball debris sticks to the paddle. After every session it feels necessary to clean this paddle, almost like the grit or pattern of the face retains debris more than other paddles. I use an eraser so it doesn’t matter, but this paddle more than my other two requires cleaning more often.
If I were to buy a new gen of this model, I would hope it has slightly more driving power (10%) while retaining all of the other aspects. The alpha pro series looks to be much less punchy up-close, which is one of the main things I love about this paddle as I don’t find it difficult to control at the net.
Love this paddle! Feels great to play with as a beginner!
I like it a lot. It plays very similar to the Joola Perseus 3S paddle I had previously. Hopefully it lasts longer than that one did.
